Alderman Teflon Brassnibble checked the agenda. As usual it lacked… items. He peered at the Hon Sec Madeleine Underbake who was knitting, oblivious to his telepathic hatred as it winged across the baize of the Council table. He sighed. ‘I call the meeting of the Newton Architrave’s planning and highways committee to order. We appear to have no minutes to approve…’

The floor, walls and roof of this tunnel are worn smooth. Whoever dug it first has long since passed into dust, or maybe one of the worms had them. Or maybe they put their head above ground and someone was waiting to pounce. I scuttle along, doing my business as I see fit. No point in worrying about the others.

It’s a good tunnel, even if there are stones which poke out sometimes, and threaten to catch the unwary. Ouch! Like that one. I can’t smell anyone up ahead, or feel anyone coming up behind me, but I still wish to leave this ratrun as soon as possible.

Flocks of tiny finches swoop in to graze
Among the green moss wrapping the tunnel
Like some paintings in the walls daubed for days

Gone were the blooms of rose and brambles
Some ancestors used to have picnics here
Still life could be hopeful and blissful

The Cypress tree tunnel is a dirt road, where the trees on each side form a continuous overhead canopy, giving the illusion of it being a tunnel.  It is a glorious place for photographers to go and take pictures, but because these trees grow best in swampy, wet soil, an alligator took over this tunnel and claimed it as his territory.

Hidden from the scorching sun,

An adventure for them just begun.

Beach – by KL Caley

While relocating to a new flat across the city seemed exciting for her son, it was more of a headache for Raveena. A 35 year old, balancing her role as the sole parent to a rambunctious 9 year old along with heading the editorial team for political coverage at a leading magazine; she had more than enough on her plate.

“Rishi, this is the last time I’m reminding you to look through the big carton for any toys you still want,” she warned her son, who sat glued to his tablet. “Once I discard them, then don’t come crying to me.”

The three musketeers,
mum, dad and little Spud
Looking for D’artagnan
Everyone follow the flowered wellies
Leave your mark on the sand
Should he be behind us,
he will know where to go.

Beach – by KL Caley

Yeah, you see those high fences with razor wire at the top they just put up?  Let me tell you about it…

You’ll know that they closed the beaches about a month ago.  They said “Red Tide” and all, you know those algae blooms that pretty much kill everything in their paths.  But why close the beach over that?

Yep, I wanted to find out too.

Beach – by KL Caley

Memory stalks me.
A secret festers within,
And the burden of silence weighs heavy.
But some promises cannot be broken,
And some secrets must be taken to the grave…
