The One and Only

The ladies were watching him and he knew it. They watched him a lot.

His golden hair billowed in the breeze; he gave his head a slight toss. Give them a little something, he smirked to himself.

A yawn and a stretch, posterior raised in the air, let them admire, but don’t appear too keen.

Being the only male, there was no competition. Life was good.

The females stood one by one, turning away from him.

Wait, what was happening?

Where were they going?

In the distance, he heard a mighty roar. Well, it was good whilst it lasted.

FICTION PROMPT – LONESOME

I am not a poetry writer but I do love playing around with the magnetic poetry blocks found here (free):

So I decided to make a mini-story for a bit of fun. Todays mini-story is based on the theme of LONESOME.

The Lonesome Father by KL Caley

Short and sweet this one but I quite liked the twist.

The Unjovial Guest by KL Caley

I think we’ve all been at parties we would rather not be at for one reason or another.

It’s always a worry of mine, that guests don’t have a good time. I think I overthink or over-worry about it. I try to make sure there is something for everyone. Even down to food, last year we had a small gathering for my little one, and I made the buffet including several vegan and vegetarian options (despite only knowing one guest was vegan), and a ton of baby/toddler safe foods to accommodate for the children (including a large bowl of babybells which I knew was a favourite of one particular party-goer – obviously they weren’t vegan). Maybe it’s my upbringing but it’s always nice to be nice and to have everyone feel involved and welcome were you can.

FICTION PROMPT – NEW

I am not a poetry writer but I do love playing around with the magnetic poetry blocks found here (free):

http://play.magneticpoetry.com/poem/Poet/kit

So I decided to make a mini-story for a bit of fun. Todays mini-story is based on the theme of NEW.

The New Chapter by KL Caley

Sometimes in life you just need to start afresh. Job, partner, town, friendships. Whatever it is sometimes life just kicks you and the best thing for that individual to do is to break the cord and start again. This happened to me in the not so distant past. One of my closest friends really, really hurt me. I was pregnant at the time, incredibly ill, in and out of the hospital, fearing I would lose the baby, terrified in every sense of the word. There is an old saying that it is during your lowest moments you find out who your true friends are and it unfortunately that was true for me. I came out the other side, my baby and I both survived, but I was one friend down.

I realise my image above is about heartbreak but I can tell you, in all honesty I was heartbroken. To some extent I still am. I love my friends dearly and would go to the ends of the earth for them. With that friend, what we had felt like more than friendship, we were more like family, in fact closer than that. But as with all things in life, I take each day as it comes. I am happy and each day I find more and more joy with my new life and each day I find more and more peace with what has happened. Time is the healer.

So I decided to make a mini-story for a bit of fun. Todays mini-story is based on the theme of WAITING.

Awaiting the Sailor by KL Caley

I love to have a good daydream, especially at the seaside. I could stand and watch the waves for hours on end. There is something about getting lost watching that horizon that is so bewitching.

FICTION PROMPT – A CHILD’S VISION

I am not a poetry writer but I do love playing around with the magnetic poetry blocks found here (free):

http://play.magneticpoetry.com/poem/Poet/kit

So I decided to make a mini-story for a bit of fun. Todays mini-story is based on the theme of childhood innocence.

I love to have a good daydream. I don’t stop and stare up at the clouds nearly as often as I probably should. Whilst working from home, when the weather is nice I have taken to having lunch outside. It really helps improve my mood and lift my spirit. I love seeing shapes in the clouds, that childhood past-time still holds something special to me.

FICTION PROMPT – FATHER

I am not a poetry writer but I do love playing around with the magnetic poetry blocks found here (free):

http://play.magneticpoetry.com/poem/Poet/kit

So I decided to make a mini-story for a bit of fun. Todays mini-story is based on the theme of loss.

Memories are both our greatest gift and sometimes our biggest burden. My heart goes out to all those who have lost a parent, grandparent or sibling. Especially during the last 12 months with covid hindering so many crucial goodbyes. I always hope that some will find relief in the happy memories that they had together, and that with time, these become more memorable than the sad ones.

She stood before the wall. The exit. The entry.

Hesitant though the thunder of her heart under her chin sang of excitement.

And trepidation.

For how could she not be somewhat wary, going where she was about to.
