#Writephoto Round-Up – DEER at the CASTLE

They crept along the edge of the castle wall. Lowered themselves down and made a dash across the now grassy moat.

“This way”, hissed George into the darkness as he darted through an arched entrance into the Gardens.

“Someone will see us here,” whispered Ang into the darkness but followed anyway.

As they rounded the corner they could see a flashlight’s beam sway from side to side.

“Now”, called George. They paused watching the flashlight sway this way and that. Then with a start, the full beam was on them. Both stood stock-still. The guard raised his phone and another bright flash blinded their eyes.

Don’t blink, thought Ang, don’t blink, don’t blink, don’t blink. Damnit.

The guard stared long and hard, then shook his head and continued on his patrols.

“Ready?” George spoke softly into the darkness. Within seconds, they had transformed back to their original forms.

The next day, the police questioned everyone about the break-in. When asked if anything was stolen. One guard produced a picture with two light-up deer. Funnily, the Duke and Duchess did not remember buying such decorations for the castle.

This image was taken at the beautiful Raby Castle and Gardens last year. Due to lockdowns and most indoor events being cancelled, Christmas had started to feel a bit of a bust for my LO. Then the castle put on a festive trail through their gardens and woodlands, and at only a fiver, it was worth a punt. It was cold, slightly too dark in places but somehow felt incredibly magical and it was just so wonderful to be able to do something festive. Joyfully, despite being allowed indoor stuff this year, they are actually doing it again. So, once again we are booked. It’s great to support something local and wonderful to think that something so magical stemmed from that bleak time.

I’ve had so many wonderful responses and enjoyed each and every one. I have tried to reblog a few since the post went out so hopefully, you will have seen some of them trickling through, but here is the list below (if I have missed anyone, please let me know). It makes for fantastic reading.

I hope you’ll join me for another #writephoto challenge published today at 12 o’clock GMT.

Thank you all again for taking part in #WRITEPHOTO – DEER AT THE CASTLE

With special thanks to Sue who originally made the #writephoto challenge so meaningful for all of us and gave me her blessing to continue it.

Take Care
KL ❤
