#writephoto Challenge

#Writephoto Round-Up – Swan

Dog vs Duck they had said
A challenge to go head to head
I knew I could easily win
So I accepted the task with a grin

I may be small but I have might
The duck wouldn’t put up a fight
But then as I walked down the lane
A bloomin’ huge swan is what came

I’m not one who normally shies from a task
But to take on a swan is quite an ask
So I turned on my heels and I fled
I’m now cosy and safe in bed!

I, of course, don’t endorse any form of animal fighting (just in case that’s a thing). My little furball is as soft as muck but she is firmly kept on a leash when out in public. Just as well as this lonesome guy surprised us whilst out on a trail one day. Or so I had thought, when seconds later….

Swan Family – KL Caley

A full swan family appeared; mummy, daddy and the most beautiful babies. Of course, we kept our distance. I am a “friend” of this local nature reserve and as lovely as this little swan family were, they didn’t half cause some mischief.

On several occasions they took a jaunt away from the nature reserve and had to be encouraged back (sometimes by the local bobby as seen above). Sadly, mother Swan hurt her back foot at one point and was struggling to walk and even stand, so she was taken away by the RSPB for a few days before being brought back to her babies.

They were such a lovely, lively bunch, full of character and it was a joy watching the little family grow throughout the summer. We are really hoping they return again this year.

Quiet week this week for entires but I really loved the wonderful responses recieved and enjoyed each and every one. I have tried to reblog a few since the post went out so hopefully, you will have seen some of them trickling through, but here is the list below (if I have missed anyone, please let me know). It makes for fantastic reading.

    1. It was lovely – I really hope we have some return to our nature reserve this year. They were a delight. Thank you for continuing to support the prompt. KL ❤

    1. Last year was my first year joining the “friends” group to help look after the nature reserve, they certainly made it an eventful one 🙈. KL ❤

  1. Loved the info KL. Swans are special to me so to see the youngsters grow on the marina was wonderful. We’ve known part of a park being closed to the public when the swans built their nest on the actual pathway. They were protected and can’t be moved, so they sectioned it off.
We have geese here and so far three broods of goslings though I haven’t seen any yet to take photos.
I talk to them and in the past they have let me get quite close to their babies.
