Know Your History – 27th January – Lewis Carroll

27th January 1832 Lewis Carroll was born.

Lewis Carroll, was an English writer, mathematician, logician, Anglican deacon and photographer. His most famous writings are Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, its sequel Through the Looking-Glass, which includes the poem Jabberwocky, and the poem The Hunting of the Snark. He is noted for his facility at word play, logic, and fantasy. There are societies in many parts of the world (including the United Kingdom, Japan, the United States, and New Zealand) dedicated to the enjoyment and promotion of his works and the investigation of his life.

AliceHis work (and his life) has sparked many a debate, however regardless of your belief his story is immortalised in childhood memories the world over.

    1. Haha couldn’t resist! Everyone I know has grown up either loving or being terrified by Alice in Wonderland. I know he has had some bad press but I do still think he is an inspirational writer. Unfortunately, I have missed a few others this month I would loved to have included; Robert Burns, Byron, Edgar Allan Poe to name a few, might be able to squeeze them in later in the year on publication dates or something 😦
